Jan Harp Domene served as National President from 2007 to 2009. As president, Jan was committed to reaching out to the many diverse families that call the United States home and bringing them into the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø family. National PTA’s Emerging Minority Leadership Conference and Urban Family Engagement Initiative flourished under her leadership.
She was a member of the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøfor 31 years. During her years with PTA, Domene facilitated collaborative partnerships with many education, health, safety, and child advocacy groups to benefit children and provide valuable resources to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍømembers. As a mother and grandmother, Domene championed meaningful parent and family involvement as the most effective way to help all children be successful and healthy students.
She served ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøin numerous leadership positions including ºÚÁϳԹÏÍønational President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer, national chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, and California State ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøpresident.
Outside of PTA, Domene owned and operated Domene's Consulting, an event and party planning company. She also held volunteer positions for the Red Cross, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Special Olympics Committee and was a past advisory board member for the Prevention of Youth Violence Task Force. Domene was named 2009 Americana Woman of the Year by Orange County’s Cypress College.
After her death in February 2012, National ºÚÁϳԹÏÍødecided to honor Jan and her commitment to reaching out to all families. The Jan Harp Domene Diversity and Inclusion Award identifies PTAs that are doing remarkable work in the areas of diversity and inclusion.
